Living Endowment / Scholarships for Therapists
National AMBUCS™, Inc. awards approximately $150,000 in scholarships of up to $1,500 to students of properly accredited physical and related therapy college programs. Appropriate disciplines include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech language pathology, and hearing audiology. Awards are based on financial need, citizenship, commitment community, academic accomplishment, character, compassion and integrity, and career objectives. Since 1994, volunteer AMBUCS Chapters have funded
and given away more than 10,000 special therapeutic
cycles called AmTrykes (TM) to children and adults with disabilities. Physical therapists acknowledge the AmTryke improves gross
motor skills and overall physical and mental fitness. The Amtryke gives the rider great enjoyment, while developing his
mind and body.
Ambility Projects: A combination of “AMBUCS” and “Mobility,” the Ambility™ projects manifest our dedication to improving mobility and independence for those with disabilities. AMBUCS builds wheelchair accessible ramps to create more accessible homes and public buildings. Members perform other community service, including, for example, assisting disabled persons gain greater independence through the use of speech recognition computer technology, enabling them to control their environment using speech commands.
The Kenowa Chapter maintains a collection of home medical equipment, including wheelchairs and walkers, which it loans to persons in the community.
